Shelter Partnership and Fashion Delivers Give Away 3,500 Winter Coats to 15 Community Agencies to Help the Homeless and California Victims of the Economic Crisis

Why: California is home to one of every eight Americans and has been deeply impacted by the economic crisis, with record high unemployment rates of more than 12%. According to the most recent estimates, there are 48,000 homeless men, women and children each night in Los Angeles County. Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation appealed to manufacturers and retailers to donate new products for this effort. Shelter Partnership will be distributing 3,500 of the high-quality men’s and women’s coats received at this event. There will also be an opportunity to interview homeless men and women receiving the coats.
Who: Shelter Partnership, Inc. is dedicated to alleviating, preventing, and ending homelessness through the development of short-term and permanent housing and supportive services for the homeless and potentially homeless throughout Los Angeles County. Its S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank has secured more than $160 million in products since its inception in 1989.
Founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Fashion Delivers is a not-for-profit organization intended to mobilize the fashion and related industries to help our neighbors. Its mission is to provide products from all parts of the fashion and related industries to victims of natural disasters and those in need. Since its inception the organization has raised nearly $43 million dollars in donations from over 500 supporting companies from the fashion and home industries.
