A Presentation on the General Relief Restructuring Plan

Beginning in July 2009 and throughout the Summer and Fall, the General Relief (GR) Restructuring Workgroup, consisting of 11 County departments and 10 Stakeholders, convened to discuss how the GR program could be improved so as to better assist program participants and help them transition to stable employment and housing.

On October 6, 2009, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved 27 recommendations put forward by the Workgroup to restructure the GR program, including one recommendation to enroll 10,000 GR recipients in a rental subsidy program by 2014. At the conclusion of Phase 2, the Workgroup reached consensus on 15 additional recommendations as well as implementation plans for the 27 recommendations already approved by the BOS.

Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) staff will provide a briefing on the proposed recommendations to implement the restructuring of the GR program, which will soon be heard before the BOS.
