Jan Perry Serves as Executive Director

Shelter Partnership experienced a difficult transition after the loss of Ruth Schwartz. Thankfully, the process was helped by naming Jan Perry our Executive Director. A well-known civic leader – and former three-term Los Angeles City Council member – Jan is a long-time supporter of Shelter Partnership's mission.

“I am thrilled to continue the legacy of the late Ruth Schwartz, the Co-Founder of Shelter Partnership. Ms. Schwartz set the bar very high in service of and advocacy on behalf of those who are unhoused and homeless,” Jan said in accepting her role in this critical time for the organization.

Jan is no stranger to the issue of homelessness. From 2001-2013, Jan served as a Los Angeles City Councilperson in District 9, which included Downtown, Little Tokyo, and South L.A. Her tenure oversaw projects that dramatically re-shaped the Downtown area, with over 5,000 affordable housing units developed in her District, including more than 1,300 of those were permanent supportive units for formerly homeless.

Shelter Partnership will continue the mission and life's work of Ruth Schwartz. We echo the words of our Board of Directors Chairperson Lance Simon: “Jan Perry is a brilliant, indefatigable person with the right skills, relationships, and sensitivity to assist Shelter Partnership in achieving those goals.”

We're excited to have Jan on our team and look forward to working with her in 2022.
