SHELTER PARTNERSHIP RECEIVES $100,000 GRANT FROM THE S. MARK TAPER FOUNDATION

For nearly a decade and a half, the S. Mark Taper Foundation has been one of Shelter Partnership’s most ardent supporters. We are glad to announce that this relationship is continuing with a grant of $100,000 awarded by the S. Mark Taper Foundation to Shelter Partnership to support the continuing work of our S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank warehouse project.

Since 1989, Shelter Partnership has operated a warehouse project that distributes donations of non-perishable goods to community agencies serving the homeless and others struggling with deep poverty. Annually, well over 200 community agencies receive free distributions of nonperishable goods such as shoes, clothing, and toiletries from the warehouse project. In its 30-year history, our warehouse project has distributed over $240 million worth of goods to people across Los Angeles County who need them most. Items from our warehouse have reached hundreds of thousands of men, women, children, Veterans, and youth in the local foster care system.

The warehouse project operates out of 108,000 sq. ft. facility in the Southeast Los Angeles city of Bell. The deed to the World War II-era structure was awarded to Shelter Partnership in 2007. Our organization then launched a capital campaign to rehabilitate and modernize the warehouse. Upon completing a successful capital campaign which raised $3.5 million, the warehouse project was renamed the S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank after our lead donor.

Founded in 1989, the S. Mark Taper Foundation is one of the leading philanthropic entities in Southern California. The S. Mark Taper Foundation supports organizations related to the arts, education, physical and mental health, social services, and environmental issues. A number of health and cultural centers across Los Angeles bear the Foundation’s name. Shelter Partnership’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank is honored to be among those locations.
